Mostly This Month...
February flies by doesn't it? After the long dark of January no sooner has February arrived than it's over. It's amazing to see the sunshine again and start to sense glimpses of spring. I celebrated by 42nd birthday this month, went to Brighton for the weekend and saw a couple of shows. I also listened to one of the most moving and inspiring books I've come across in a long time (seriously, check it out - see below).
Here's some of the things that have given me joy this month.

Irresistible - Why We Can't Stop Eating (BBC iPlayer)
Following on from last month's book 'Ultra processed People' I watched this documentary on the subject available on iPlayer. It seems to have done the trick on me, I've gone off eating junk food... it isn't really food you see.
Watch this.
FILMS
1. Free Solo
Oh my goodness. Some people are nutters! I mean, amazing, fearless, incredibly skilled, but also - nutters.
As one who freaks out standing on a chair, how climbers do it I'll never know!
A gritty, modern day Rocky that makes you want to fight something! Great film that really gets the blood pumping.
SHORT VIDEOS
1. We've Created a Caste System by David Brooks
A superb 14 minutes from writer David Brooks, my favourite talk from this year's ARC conference.
2. God is... Three Whos and One What
This is a lovely and clever illustration of God's multi-dimensional personhood.
😂 FUN 😂
Great life hack, check this out...
🎵 AUDIO BOOKS 🎵
GHOSTED by Nancy French
This book is amazing! One of the best and most binge-worthy books I've read/listened to in a long time. An incredible life story involving some hilarious, some heartbreaking and some pretty harrowing incidents. Nancy's courage and commitment to truth is inspiring and the insight she offers into American evangelicalism is eye-opening.
If you read/listen to one book this year - make it this one. So so good.
CRISIS OF CONFIDENCE by Carl Truman
A book about the value of creeds and confessions for the church. Makes some good and important points but at times felt like it was trying to win an argument I've never heard anyone have. Made me want to read and engage more with historic catechisms and confessional documents.

---------------
I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength
believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to him;
but the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with his gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith.
In the same way he calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith. In this Christian church he daily and richly forgives all my sins and the sins of all believers.
On the Last Day he will raise me and all the dead and give eternal life to me and all believers in Christ.
Martin Luther
