As the year draws down, here's a selection of interesting articles and video clips I've come across in 2024.

CHARTS AND GRAPHS

This instagram reel showing the changing way that couples meet was fascinating, and this article and accompanying graph about the global rate were eye opening.

Average children born per female (societies must be 2.1 to avoid collapse).
I also came across this amazing website for anyone who loves graphs and charts. Among them (in keeping with the above theme) is this one:

This observation on how the concept of personal identity wasn't, and now is, a subject commented on in literature is interesting, and revealing about an aspect of our age that we consider to be so central to personal development.

ARTICLES

This year also saw the UK descend into chaos with racially motivated riots breaking out. Amongst the sadness and shame of it all was this slightly amusing defense by Phil Hoban. Accused of shouting slurs about Allah he replied he was shouting about a man named Alan
This article on how cancel culture is girl culture from Louise Perry is fascinating (and convincing), and this article on the difference between Catholic and Evangelical attitudes toward sex is instructive, as is this article by Paul Kingsnorth on the comparison between the modern west and pagan Rome

OLYMPIANS

I love spotting a brother or a sister in the pantheon of Olympians and as a Christian parent it's always nice  to be able to say to my kids 'look, so-and-so is a believer!' This year I enjoyed reading about Adam Peaty's faith journey, and I loved the wonderfully matter-of-fact way that Andrea Sopondellini shared her pre-match Bible reading before competing

In fact, when it comes to the Olympics, this article shows just how many more there were than I came across.

There was of course this epic image, which Gabriel Medina also used to share his Christian faith.

This year saw the baptism of Raheem Sterling and the public display of faith from Mark Guehi who wrote on his captain's armband 'I love Jesus' and then 'Jesus loves you', despite warnings from the FA. Apparently only certain religious beliefs are allowed.
