As the year draws to a close I'm sharing my favourite films, TV shows, books, quotes and memes from the year. Today's list is a collection of some facts and quotes gathered across a variety of articles, books and blogs I've read this year.
Facts/Stats:
From 'Testosterone' by Carole Hooven
- A man’s T levels are lower in engaged dads.
- T has been shown to rise in dads in response to a baby’s cry (perhaps because of a need to defend or protect)
- Across the globe twice as many women as men report that they aren’t particularly interested in sex.
- A dominant male in a hunter gatherer society commonly sired around 114 children
- The only example of exclusive homosexual behaviour in non human animals is the domestic sheep.
- Genghis Khan is likely responsible for the ancestry of 1/200 men.
- Women in UK and US who report being ‘low libido’/not overly interested in sex, is around 26-29%
- Women’s sexual preference and libido are more culturally contingent than men’s.
- Since 1904 in US and Canada around 10,000 people have been awarded a medal for extraordinary bravery for rescuing a civilian. 10% have been women.
- Harvey Weinstein’s movies had been nominated for 300 Oscar’s, and has been thanked more than almost anyone else in movie history ranking just after Steven Spielberg. 13 women accused him of sexual assault and harassment.
- Men have 10-20x as much T as women. Pubertal boys have 30x as much as girls their age.

Research suggest that acceptance and practice of polyamory and Consensual Non-Monogamy is growing. In the UK, 39% of adults think that humans are not naturally monogamous and 34% think that polyamory is morally acceptable. In America, only a little over half of adults (55%) say their ideal relationship is completely monogamous, with that figure being lowest among men and younger generations. A third of Americans believe that open marriages are an acceptable form of relationship.
